Healthfirst and CAIPA Community Service Fund Announce the 2019 Jade Star Karaoke Contest

Seniors in Chinatown Get Ready to Showcase Creative Talent

NEW YORK, NY, July 30, 2019 – Healthfirst and CAIPA announce the annual Jade Star Karaoke Contest. Details for this highly anticipated event will be provided at a kick-off press conference on Tuesday, July 30, at the Tsung Tsin Association.

This year marks the 13th consecutive year for this event, which has grown bigger and more popular each year. This unique competition lets seniors showcase their dynamic singing talents and take center stage at this star-studded evening full of excitement and entertainment.

“Healthfirst is excited to continue to offer this unique cultural experience in collaboration with the CAIPA, the oldest and now one of the largest and most successful national Chinese American medical societies in North America,” said Errol Pierre, Healthfirst’s Senior Vice President, State Programs. “Jade Star Karaoke offers an engaging way for senior community members to express their creativity in an uplifting and social setting that can also have positive influence on their overall health and well-being.”

Healthfirst recognizes the health benefits that events such as the Jade Star Karaoke Contest can afford the senior population. Studies have shown a correlation between social interaction and increased activity with improved physical and emotional health for seniors which positively impacts common health issues such as blood pressure, Alzheimer’s and depression .

The 2019 Jade Star Karaoke Contest features two categories—Green Jade and White Jade—with prizes provided by Fu Generation Foundation. The top three finishers in each category will receive a grand prize of $600, $400, and $300, respectively. Contestants must be age 55 or older and resident in New York to be eligible for participation. All songs will be performed in Cantonese or Mandarin.

The Grand Finale, expected to attract more than 1,000 guests, is scheduled for Friday, October 11, at Jing Fong Restaurant, located at 20 Elizabeth Street in NYC.
